Ms. Gary shows examples of the unpublished work of Margaret Wise Brown and the detective work involved in getting these work into publication. Through this analysis of the works, a picture of the genius behind the writing emerges. The timeless nature of her writing is proven through the ability of her work to reach children 50 years after these manuscripts were locked away in a trunk in her sister's barn attic in Vermont.

Ms. Gary discusses the "Here and Now" philosophy created by Bank Street School and adopted by children's publishers. Margaret Wise Brown was credited with giving this style of writing the "wings" it needed to reach children. From Ms. Brown's battles to get fair payment for illustrators to her fight for better printing and her unique techniques for writing, the history of children's publishing and Ms. Brown's career are connected.
