Talks for Upper Elementary Students:

Me? A Writer?: How to open your brain to let the writer come out

Through an inter-active presentation, Ms. Gary shows students how to think like a writer. She uses Ms. Brown's techniques of writing to help students take the world around them and translate it into ideas for stories. She also talks briefly about the life of the author of Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny, and her work with Ms. Brown's unpublished manuscripts.

Pre-presentation and follow-up materials are provided for enhanced classroom learning.

In addition, Ms. Gary will do a Parents and Teachers Only talk about her work with Ms. Brown's manuscripts:

Treasures in a Trunk: My work with Margaret Wise Brown's unpublished manuscripts

An indepth look at the manuscripts left behind by the prolific author. Ms. Gary shows examples of the unpublished work of Margaret Wise Brown and the detective work involved in getting these work into publication. Through this analysis of the works, a picture of the genius behind the writing emerges. The timeless nature of her writing is proven through the ability of her work to reach children 50 years after these manuscripts were locked away in a trunk in her sister's barn attic in Vermont.
